Benat Broderick (Blackrock, Co. Dublin), a student at Stepaside Educate Together Secondary School, volunteers with Cystic Fibrosis Ireland and helps with their fundraising activities such as 65 Roses Day, the National Fundraising Day for Cystic Fibrosis.

Benat lives with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and has always been eager to support others with the illness. He used his voice to educate the public and began speaking out on social media to discuss the illness and its challenges. As the conversation grew, he began to write articles and speak on radio and TV programmes to spread information and generate more awareness of the illness.

“Since joining Stepaside Educate Together Secondary School (ETSS) in September 2017, Benat has impressed us all with his advocacy and social action in supporting the Cystic Fibrosis community in Ireland and abroad,” says Barbara Mulhall, Principal at Stepaside Educate Together Secondary. “He has educated the staff and students of Stepaside ETSS about the condition while also dispelling myths and re-educating us all on the true facts. He has a strong sense of social justice and community responsibility, and he has continued to ensure that all CF sufferers can get access to the best drugs available.”
