Eligibility

Does my school have to be a member of NAPD or GTCNI in order to participate?

No. Any school may participate.

How do I apply for The Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards?

Eligible students may complete a Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards programme application through our online application system and submit it to their school principals.  Students cannot apply directly to The Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards. They must apply through the approved channel for judging.

I am a Boy Scout. Can I apply for The Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards?

Yes. All young people in secondary level education who are conducting volunteer service may apply. Boy Scouts must submit their through the Pramerica Spirit of Community online application system.

My friends and I worked on the programme together. Can we apply together?

No, only individuals can apply. Groups are not eligible. This does not preclude an individual from applying who had assistance on his project. Everyone on the project can apply; however, they must do so individually and the certifying school or organisation decides which individual is submitted for national-level judging.

Who is eligible for The Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards?

Young people in post-primary/secondary level education who live on the island of Ireland, who have conducted a volunteer service activity within the past year are eligible to apply for The Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards. Employees of Pramerica, NAPD & GTCNI or their children are NOT eligible.

How can I make sure you've received my application?

Your dashboard will be updated after the closing date with the status of your application.

How do I apply?

Students apply online through the Pramerica Spirit of Community website.  Applicants must register and submit their application via our website to their school principal / deputy principal before the student closing date. Refer to the Dates to Remember page for more information, see the attached User Guide and Video User Guide..

I have the application completed. Now what do I do with it?

Applications must be submitted to a school principal through the online application system. .

My school is not participating in the programme. How do I apply?

Your school does not need to implement the programme for you to apply. A username & password is emailed to all school Principals at the start of the programme.


Ask your principal if he or she will certify and endorse your application and then submit it for national-level judging for you. Principals can nominate a maximum of two applications for national-level judging. For further information please see the attached User Guide and Video User Guide.

School Application Q&A

Can teachers certify applications?

Yes. Teachers can provide a reference endorsing an applicant and can submit a maximum of two applications for national judging if they have the authorisation of the school Principal / Deputy Principal.

How many applications can a school enter?

Every school can submit a maximum of two applications (one in each category or two in one of the categories). Principals are responsible for selecting the two applications to go forward for national judging.

I received my password by email, what is the username I use to log on to view applications from my students?

Your username is the email address that the password was sent to.

My school did not get information on the programme. I have questions on how to implement the programme at my school. Who should I talk to?

Complete implementation instructions are mailed to all secondary level school principals. Applications are available on our website or you may email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to have a packet mailed to you.

What do I do to implement the programme in my school?

Complete implementation instructions are mailed to all secondary-level school principals.  For additional information, please refer to the Implementing the Programme and Information for Principals pages.

Dates & Deadlines

What is the application deadline date?

Refer to the Dates to Remember page for more information.

What is the deadline for schools to submit their selected applications?

Each Principal will review the applications submitted and shortlist a maximum of two applications for national judging through the online application system. Applications must be submitted by the principal / deputy principal no later than the date specified in the Dates to Remember page.

When are the National Honorees announced? How many are there?

The announcement is made in February.  There will be 20 finalists selected.

When are the national recognition events in Ireland?

The Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards Dinner is held every March. Refer to the Dates to Remember page for more information.

Judges Q&A

What is the judging criteria?

Applications are judged on motivation (How much personal initiative was involved in the activity?), service (How much time and effort did the activity require?), impact (How did the activity impact on the community or other people? Who benefited?) commitment (What personal sacrifices did the applicant have to make?) and challenge (Did the student have to overcome problems or obstacles, were support structures in place?).

National Event Q&A

What do finalists receive at the national event?

The 20 finalists receive engraved silver medallions and a €500 award. A Certificate is presented to the finalist at their school prior to the national event.

Two All-Ireland Youth Volunteers of the Year are presented with a gold medallion, €1,000 for a charity of their choice, a crystal trophy for their school and an all expenses paid trip to the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards in Washington D.C.

Who will attend the national event?

The 20 finalists will attend the Gala Awards Dinner in March, along with their parents/guardians and the school Principal or Deputy Principals. Two of the finalists will be named All-Ireland Youth Volunteers of the Year.
